i missed the bedford riot, and read many of the messages, i was friends with andy and sue and the bedford skins and punks, and used to go over regular, we were from aylesbury, punk mandy went out with aiden, the skins didnt hate punks, something happened and i dont know what, the skins hated uk decay punks. i found that out at the damned gig queensway hall dunstable when it kicked off, i tried stopping some of the fighting, im sure i helped dave(mad dave) from getting hurt, i was told to keep out of it, i didnt like seeing punks getting a kicking, but it happened, i remember getting slagged off for not helping, which i found stupid, im not superman, i was friends with both lots. shame it all happened.
i never knew why it all happened. then i hung around london a lot and got a kicking from nf skins about 12 onto 2 of us. you live with it. i got into lots of riots when i was a punk and fighting teddyboys / skins / trendys. its all part of life. it was mentioned about aiden sterling he moved to aylesbury and formed the feckin ejits punk band and then the riffs ska band, and has since left.
dont know what reply i will get from this.i should write a book. _________________ hello. |

i maybe the only one who has feckin ejit demos, never released them.
theres a couple of dvds floating about, one was me showing the cameraman around and he forgot to video the bands set so only lasts about 15 mins, tatty copy.
i did backing vocals when they supported king kurt at friars.
they were a good band. _________________ hello. |

yeah i was at the damned gig got a right good kicking off the bedford skins..ended up with concussion...but i agree we're talking about events that happened a quarter of a century ago..put it all behind us hopefully we're all older and wiser now and should know better than to hold grudges.....it seemed to me everyone used to fight each other in those days _________________ gimme some of that rock'n'roll

Yes absolutely!
and..
Aidan wrote: | my name is aidan sterling and i was involved in the bunyan centre riot, and as you might imagine i remember things differently to many on here.
firstly the reason we went to see dk is because most of us thought them a brilliant band,i had seen them in luton and n'mton and was very impressed. the atmosphere that night was always on edge .... |
Looking back to the now historical events that occured a quarter of a
century ago both in Bedford and elsewhere both with UK Decay and with
the wider Punk movement., it is plain to see that much 'water has passed
under the bridge' since then.
Those time where different..you are talking about the early days of
margarette thatchers britain..the bedford riot was before Orgreave!
In retrospect those post - punk times seemed extreemley tribal, easily
leeding to violent confrontations...not that you dont get the same today,
it was just different!
It seems also in retrospect that much mis-communication was rife !
and we all got carried away on occasion!
Very trying times!
But now we are all older and wiser and can all look back and have a laugh
at our own mis-dameanurs (god knows how you spell that!)
Great to hear you got into singing Aidan btw

Some of the concerts at Hemel Pavilion were near riots also.
I particularly remember the Banshees Join Hands Tour - That was absolute mayhem outside. |
