Whats new in the Gallery?

From now on, all Gallery updates will be featured on this post below.
So this is one place you will be able to quickly check for new images.
Previously, depending on what image was updated a post
was made in a corrosponding topic, relevant to the image.
It was logical at first to do it this way, however now there are now
over 600 images in the Galleries and with the passing of time
coupled with the growing complexities of the sub Galleries, for the aid
of easier navigation, we shall now use this post to document all updates!

Did you know that you can also use 'RSS' to keep a check on the
Gallery updates?

The UK Decay Community Gallery is now 'RSS' complient so if you
have a 'RSS' reader you can use that to keep up to date with all the
latest updates!
Just click the little red 'RSS' icon at the bottom of the gallery page
and add it to your reader. You can either 'add' the whole Gallery,
or you can choose your favourite Gallery to add!

And now for the latest addition's!
Luton News: - 'Feedback'

Richard L has sent in some footage which he has exhumed from
his archives.
Interestingly, presented here are 4 articles/pages from the popular
Luton tabloid 'The Luton News', 'Feedback' collumn of the late 70's
early 80's.
Although most of these images contain stuff on UK Decay Pneu-Mania
etc there is also other pertinent information on the Luton bands/scene
from that period. we have decided to keep these pages in their entirety!

We hope particularly for 'old' Lutonian Punx these articles will provide
great amusement and interest!

So here is the first one

Sandra has kindly scanned in her scrapbook!
Included are some interesting local (Luton area, UK)

The 1st of the 2 scan's are of some local media footage of that
infamous 1981 Bedford Bunyan centre gig followed by a follow up
by Spon in the Luton News on the media coverage of the 1982 Luton
Carnival gig.

Following that are some UK Decay reviews and early Local press on
UK Decay, Pneumania, the Friction, Paranoia, The Klips, Tee Vee's,
Ant People, Toad the Wet Sprocket and more!

Roger Holdstock from 'The Friction' gets wounded at a football match!

Also there are tickets for 'Daze of the future past' gig at Leeds Queen's
Hall, an article on a very young looking 'Cas' Caroline Ahley and
Rick Ramswell and their fashion aspirations! (They later opened
'Identity' ; A New Romantic/ Goth /Etc fashion clothes shop in Barbers
lane, Luton;; Later moving to Kensington Market!)

Splendid stuff!
The final pic is a photo of the early 'Black Cat' T - Shirt

Many thanks to Sandra for sharing these memorable moments
from her scrapbook!

Gallery Update! 10 July 2006

We have been reorganising the Gallery structure over the last few days!
The Gallery program itself has been updated, this will mean many new
features ( we shall have to discover for ourselves as to what they
actually are/do)!
We have now fixed the gallery 'ghost album' bug that has caused
problems for the administrators: although this didn't affect the viewer
visually, it meant that we couldn't create any new 'sub folders'; hence
now we can in the next few days, upload a couple of Fanzines and other
items that have been sent in!

Many thanks to James at SDZ for the hard work and time getting
this sorted for us!

Greg Webster and 'TY' Vass's legendary Luton Fanzine issue no 2
can now be found in the gallery.
This issue features an interview with IN Excelsis, a review of 'John fox',
'The Blubells' and other interesting Luton scene 'titbits' from 83 and it is
finished in style with a neat little cartoon by 'TY' about 'life in Luton'!

Aylesbury "Fiars" poll flyers from the years 1979-80

Click here to view the "Friars Poll Gallery"

The Legendary Aylesbury "Friars" music venue will figure in many
memories.
Looking through the lists of poll results from the two years 1979 and 1980
brings back recollections of heady days spent raising funds and lifts to
get our butts over to one of the regions best loved venues!
For UK Decay it was an honour to be offered a gig there, and when they
finally did get that gig with Killing Joke the band pulled out all the stops
and rocked the house with one of their most potent local performances
in front of a largely local crowd.

In the year 1979, Decay were still relatively new on the scene but had
already started to make inroads in the polls, achieving 10th in the
’best local band’ poll alongside Ayelsbury’s own John Otway.
The band also achieved a 71st in the ‘Bands you would most like to see at F.A.
(Friars Aylesbury, UK) in 1980’.
By 1980 UK/DK had made many gains in the polls reaching 7th in ‘The most
enjoyable gig’ (the gig with Killing Joke and the Passions) a staggering 1st in
the ‘Best support band’ poll, whilst achieving a modest 4th in the ‘Best local
Band’. On the downside, the Killing Joke/Passions/UK Decay gig was 3rd in
’The most disappointing date’ poll but to cap it off Decay were 22nd out of 118
bands in the category ‘Bands you would like to see at F.A. in 1981’
That list includes such bands as Pink Floyd, The Cure, The Police, B52’s,
The Ramones, The Stranglers, Spandau Ballet etc etc, all below UK DK!

LU7’s Chronic Outbursts also were making inroads on the polls by 1980
Achieving 21st in the ‘Best local Band’ poll.

Overall these polls are fascinating reading for many that will remember Friars
and also for many that will be interested in the Aylesbury come Punk/New Wave
and general music scenes from the late 70’s to mid 80’s in the UK.

Our thanks goes out to Richard for scanning and sending these in
for us all to enjoy!

If anyone has any other years poll charts from Friars please share
them with us! In the first instance please contact me
werewolf@ukdecay.co.uk

And please dont forget you can click the image for a larger
'text readable version'!
