				| FURYO "Getting Blotto" 'Sounds' interview December 1984
   View Readable text version

From the UK musicrag 'Sounds' December the 1st 1984 we bring you
 the FURYO "Getting Blotto" interview!
Makes for very interesting reading with the new line-up including the
new guitarist, Albie de Luca working on their second album.
Seems the theme for this interview titled "Getting Blotto" has nothing to
 do with getting smashed!
More to do with the 'Rorsach Inkblott Test', the hidden meanings within
splatterings of ink, coupled with christians being fed to the Lions in the
 Arena!
With comments about Luton and a passing refference to 'Flood', their
sound engineer! (didn't he do the U2 album or something?)

Any way we have delliberately kept it at full size to retain it's authenticity
and make the text readable. Apologies for those with a small screen or
 low rez!

				| i remember this article at the time , very good stuff. remember this is only about a month from the final furyo gig (jan 85) so its actually very near the end of the band's life. you'd never guess it from the interview though , they all sound very positive and like they're getting on well. the second album they discuss of course never got officially issued (though it got circulated as a semi-bootleg) , be great to think of it getting a long-awaited release some day. p | |

3 More pics kindly submitted by Sandra have been added to the 'Faces
Gallery'. Including a delightfull shot of a 'Luton Punk girls week in
Blackpool'. According to Sandra this was the first of such many Hols to
Blackpool. When they first got there on this trip which was August of 1979,
they didn't know anyone or where the punks hung out but it didn't take
long to rectify, by the end of the week they had found where to go and
had met plenty of new friends!

The second thumb above is a shot of Sandra and Spon taken about 1980
the earlier (photo no 5 - in the 'Faces Gallery') was taken at Corby in 1982!

The 3rd thumb is Lyndsey and Joanne taken mid 90's at the Ashcroft
school reunion at Luton Railway club.

Thanks to Sandra for these pics.

Thanks to Roger for sending in these shots from the land 'down under'
of 2 well known Luton Punk's, Mark Cottle and Ollie Holdstock.
Mark is currently living in Australia and Ollie, Rogers brother
 still lives in the UK.
Earlier this year I think? Ollie visited Australia and met up with Mark
in Sydney and 'as you do', ended up in a pub (or do they call it a 'bar'
 out there?).
Mark like most of us has, shall we say, added a little midrift
since the halcyon early 80's but looks just the same as he did way back.
He doesn't seem to have aged more than a couple of years!
The life in Ozzie must be doing him good!

 Nice one!

				| More Friars Aylesbury Poll results; years 1977, 1978 & 1981 A big thanks to Jon Boon for scanning these and sending them in!

We now have 3 more years of Friars Aylesbury Poll Results up in the
 gallery, the years 1977, 1978 and 1981.
As we already have the years 1979 and 1980, that means we now have
five consecutive years of 'Friars Aylesbury Poll Results' posted up in our
 Gallery!
For those that may wonder,'Friars' was an important venue based in
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, UK. in the 70's and 80's. It was often
frequented by many major UK touring artist's, the list from which,
is too long to go into here.
David Bowie played a 'secret gig' there with Iggy Pop and other
internationally famous artist's such as for example 'Kid Creole
and the Coconuts' would ask for 'Friars' to be included on the tour
 itenery.
Reading through the various years, it is interesting to see the emerging
trends of the Punk and New Wave take over from the previous 'prog Rock'
 tastes.
Obviously no sign of UK Decay on the years 1977/78 but they are still
riding high in the 1981 Poll's!
It is unclear whether there were any more 'F.A.Poll's' for other
years, perhaps someone could illuminate us on this?

 Thanks again 'J. B.'

				| The Punk77 website has a fairly big article with the Jets in the latest edition of its magazine.
At the bottom of the article is a link to this site and the friction site.

The article is almost identical to the piece on this site but at least Luton is getting a good old plug.

The band are referred to as the Luton Jets

				| 3 more Karma Sutra pics from Nicki
 Now up in the gallery!

Many thanks to 'Nicki' for sending in these 3 'new' photos
 of Karma Sutra.
Not exactly sure where the venue is but 'The Blockers Arms'
Hightown road, Luton, comes to mind!
This is 'Karma' in action with one of their later line-ups, circa 1986?

From left to right Graham, Dave and Neil

The pics although a little grainy at time, are steeped in atmosphere and
memories and are fantastic additions to the Karma Sutra/Phallic Symbols
 collection. Nice one Nicki!

Nicki also sent in a number of her pics from her collection for the 'Faces
Gallery'. They should also be posted up within the next couple of days.

 Dont forget....
Please keep your eye on this topic for the latest gallery additions
Please note: This post will also be replicated in the Karma Sutra Topic
in the 'Post your Profiles' Gallery. If you wish to reply to this topic, please
follow the link at the bottom of this post to get there and then make your
 reply there.
