Luton International Carnival 2007 ***Cancelled***
Luton International Carnival 2007 has been cancelled!
Due to 'Health and Safety' fears, a a decision was taken in the small hours
of today (UK bank holiday Monday, 28th may 2007) to call off the Carnival
after several hours of torrential rain.
It is unlikely to be re-arranged for another date so it will be next year
before it goes ahead again.
The lake in Wardown Park has overflowed it's banks and the river Lea
has swollen to flood levels along the processional route, all this coupled
with unseasonably cold biting winds and squalls of freezing rain. It is like
a bad febuary day out there I can assure, folk would have succumbed to
exposure from the elements.
Luton Carnival 2007 certainly lost the battle this year with the typical
'Limey Weather'
Their is a very peculiar mood about town, as the stages are packed away,
this has to be the quietest Carnival day in Luton’s history.
The below pics were taken aprox 3.30pm, had the carnival taken place,
these streets would have been rammed with thousands of carnival goers!.
Oh dear what a shame!
Luton Carnival is not like it used to be in the 'good old days' anyway,
it has become a huge corperate event, with a Health andSafety/Rules and Regulation/PC gone mad ethic.
Well I guess they say that about the Glastonbury festival as well!
Oh and............................
echoes of Luton carnivals punky past!
