Posting up Pictures FAQ

posting your own pics FAQ' on here.......

At the moment there is no way users can post their own pictures directlly onto the Forum's or Picture Galleries. We are looking at ways of acheiving this but for the time being you can either add your pictures as an attatchment to an E-Mail and send it to:-

werewolf@ukdecay.co.uk

We will upload them and return you an 'address' which you can then use in your posting ( dont forget to state what you want us to do in the E-Mail)
OR..In Order for you to use the 'Hotlink' method...the pic MUST already exist online somewhere....( this example uses a PC with IE 6, but the same principle should work throughout!)
Posting up your Pics here wrote:
basically, you need an address....to 'Hotlink' ( which is the most common way people do it)...'right-click' any pic on the net...then choose 'properties'...when the box pops up, you will see the pic address...'cut and paste it' (hightlight it...then 'CNTRL + C'...now...go to your post...then 'paste-it'....'CNTRL + V') or retype it into your post...then you need to 'enclose' the address with 'IMG' tags....hightlight the address in the post...when it is highlighted ( taking care here-one digit out and it wont work!) click the 'IMG' button...that should place the address within 'Image' tags...(see box below pics for example!)
Please note....some websites dont like having their pics, 'hotlinked'..this way!

Quote:
Code:
[img]http://www.ukdecay.co.uk/forumpics/townhall.jpg[/img]
[img]YOUR PICTURE ADDRESS1.jpg[/img]

the address is 'enclosed' in IMG tags.

TIP...if you see a forum post that you like the look off, or want to know how it was done....click the 'Quote-Tab' in the post concerned an have a look at the code- text layout...you can always 'cut and paste' bits you like and replace the addresses with your own!
On some you may need to 'un-tick' the 'disable HTML in this post' to get HTMl tags to work!

Sizing
Its worth noting that the forum has an optimum picture size and for all
those familliar with picture/image editors,,ie 'Paintshop', 'Photoshop' etc
please keep the width of the pics to 500px 'width, or less.
The 'height' is not so important.

If unfamilliar with the above then e-mail them anyway (we will 'size'
them for you) If you do them it just saves on our valuable resources!

Trouble Logging in!

For General 'BB' forum faq'CLICK HERE

There is an identified problem that we know about at the time of this post ( June 22nd 2004)...It is to do with the websites use of 'Framesets' within the Main UK Decay website.
The problem is that the forum seems to not be happy logging in with your correct User name and Password details ..IF the forum is enclosed within the UKDecay website!..ie..if the 'Left Slide-bar' is still showing!....Logging in will be refused and throw you back to the signing in window again!.....this time 'loosing' the 'Left Slide-bar'
The Quick solution....once the 'Left Slide-bar' has dissapeared simply 'LOG-IN' again!
9 times out of ten this should work!

The problem seems to be that the Forum window needs in order to 'LOG-IN' to be totally in its own window!

Our 'scientist's' are working on this problem and hopefully they will come up with a solution soon!

If you have tried the above and you are still experiencing problems, obviouslly check that you are using the correct 'Username' and 'Password'
Read the forum FAQCLICK HERE
Failing that send us an e-mail an we shall see if we can help:-

Forum tips...quick search for last post list

In using the forum it is sometimes useful to use the 'search tool'

on clicking the 'search' link one gets this window

There are many search features and tools here for refining your search.

Here is a usefull tip
Just type in the * symbol, which is on the top right hand side of your PC
keyboard numberpad..into the top...'Search for Keywords:' text-
entrybox..(under 'Search query)..like this:-

then press the 'search' tab at the bottom of the window..

wait a moment or two....then you get this:-

The result is.....
a chronological descending list of all the last posts in the order that
they were posted, with the latest posts appearing on the top!

The left collumn shows the Forum title the 'post' was posted in.
and the second on the left collumn shows the actual 'Post' links
(which on clicking, will take you straight to the article!)

neat!
I use this a lot!

Adding Your Links to Uk DK community website and or Forums!

If anyone out there wants to share a link with us, place a link here to
their website, or who has a link of interest to other users of the forums
heres how its done...

If already a member, please 'Pm' me
http://www.ukdecay.co.uk/messageboard/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=3
if you are signed on,
or Email me at:-

werewolf@ukdecay.co.uk

If you wish to place a 'banner' on our main 'Links' page
here are a few points you should consider
please no funny stuff! just a plain and
simple 'GIF' or 'JPG' they will work best rectangular or square!

ie 'square' 100 x 120 or rectangular 320 x 80
pixel resolution( SWF the same).

Keep the file size to a minimum..ideal average = 10kb
but we will consider tastefull larger files if neccesary.

Please, obviously send us the actuall address of the 'entry-page'
that you wish us to post!

UK Decay Communities may charge a small fee for placing
links to 'Commercial' Websites.

We will check the validity of the 'link' before posting up and will
not tolerate links to 'unsavoury' web addresses

Its not 'obigatory', it would be nice to have a 'return' link posted
on the 'linked website'!!

Please feel free to post details of your website's in the Forum's

'Other UKDK Websites'
please place it on the above Link thread..choose an apropriate 'Link-topic'
'Click 'post reply' you may have to type or 'cut and paste' your web
address into a message
or if your 'Banner' is already 'online' somewhere, 'Leech'
your website banner to the message!

(Example)
Code:
[img]http://www.ukdecay.co.uk/messageboard/templates/subSilver/images/logo_phpBB.gif[/img]

the green text code above, actually creates the moving 'UK DK'banner above!
For more info on posting up pictures check out
Posting up Pictures FAQ

We may look through the 'Posted Links' over time in view of
inclussion into the the websites main 'Links Page'

We would of course be very gratefull if you would 'Link back' to us but its
not compulsory! Rolling Eyes if you want a banner, for the time being, 'nick' the
moving UK Decay logo, on the top of any Forum page. (right click on the
logo...'save target')

Or 'Cut and Paste' the 'green text' Code from the 'example' box above.
if its for another 'BB Forum'

UK Decay Navigation Explained!

This image which can be found on the left part of the main UK Decay
webpages including the 'Home' page, is the new navigation panel.

This is the new website Navigation

Simply wave your mouse over it and the usual navigation menu will
appear. Your selection lights up in green!

In addition to the main catagories, new sub-menu's will now show.

Once the Sub-Menu pops up, scroll down the cursor to make a selection.

Some catogories have no sub - menu's but others have multiple
selections, ie The Gallery's.

Once your selection is made, let go; the selected web page will open
in the right 'main frame' ....That's it, simple!

Tip!

*Run the mouse gently up from the bottom of the menu upwards,
the sub-menu's that will appear will be easier to deal with.

* If you get a 'Sub - Menu' appearing inappropriately, simply move
the cursor out of the menu area and wait a moment, then start over.
You will soon get the knack of it!

The previous 'flash nav panels' will gradually be phased out on the
inner parts of the web pages. The previous system led to the same panel
often being duplicated on the same page! This is part of an 'on-going'
proccess to re-vamp and trim down the size hence download time
of the UK Decay Communities website.

Please if you experience any 'teething problems' or have any comments
please let us know, we value your feedback

UK Decay Communities website soon to be refurbished!

As we approach our fifth anniversary, it seems fitting that a fresh
lick of paint and renovation is surely in order.
It's hot news off-the-press and so can't divulge any more info at the current time.
But watch this space......................
