				The 'Anti-Nirex Tape'

UPDATED ! (Copied from the 'News' Forum 25th April 2008)

Hear this now!

Recently it was brought to our notice that these MP3's

were no longer working. When we looked, they had in fact

disapeared! So we took the oppurtunity to update the compilation.

Recently a further version of the cassette had surfaced so

we had a listen and compiled the best versions for quallity from

the original 'Bugsy' version along with the 'new' version.

Furthermore Spon set about 'optimising' the tracks for a better

listening experience, you will have to judge for yourselves but

we think bearing in mind the fact that this audio is taken from

20 year old cassette's, complete with noise and drop-outs and

other degredation that a reasonable job has been done!

This Compilation is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary

here are some of the Artist that contributed to this excellent

collection.......

Click Click

Karma Sutra

Penumbra Sigh

Party Girls

Corpaelia

The Rattlesnakes

24 Colours

The Twitch

Occult Radio

Bugsy & the Snakes

Kev

Kul

Strawberry Field Trials

Guitars for Ammunition

Now you can download the tracks as MP3's or you can Stream

the whole album in your Media Player! (DSL or fast connection!)

So why not have a listen to Luton's finest from the 80's underground

whilst surfing the website!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In the mid Eighties Government Policy determined that a

site in mid-Bedfordshire near Elstow, was to become the

main national and an international Nuclear-waste dump.

In the true 'Punk-spirit', the Luton 'alternative' scene

galvanised their protest against Nirex, the government

agency responsible for nuclear waste.

A 24 track Tape was produced which included works by

many local artists.

Presented here are the digitized cover scans for the tape

and below that in the next reply, you can download the MP3's:-

and the reverse:-

Many thanks to 'bugsy' for getting all this together!

see next 'Reply' for MP3's..... _________________

I got my copy from the Karma Sutra lot. I believe Dave Commodity did the tape inlay. Karma distributed a few copies locally and at their gigs.

By the way, Karen from Penumbra sigh can be found working in the charity shop next to pizza hut. she'll be chuffed that her dulcet tones can heared from here. _________________ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve immortality by not dying.

Well here it is at last. The Anti-Nirex tape in all it's glory. It was quite a lengthy job converting from tape to mp3. In the process I had to use a fair bit of noise reduction to get rid of the tape hiss, but apart from that, there were no other alterations made to the tracks. The quality isn't perfect, but, the tape is nearly 20 years old!

I hope that everybody enjoys listening to these old recordings, and, it brings back some happy memories. Hey, fame at last.

Now I think I might go and get my life back. |

				| Well this brought back a few memories - I was living in Luton at the time and in that scene (hello Tony and Bugsy). Luton mid-80s anarcho-punk nostalgists (must be at least 20 of us) might be interested that the latest edition of 'Profane Existence' (US punkzine) includes a CD with a Karma Sutra track on it. Also, Jon from Active Distribution tells me that there is a plan to re-release the Karma Sutra album, 'Daydreams of a Production Line Worker'. I am living in South London now, but did write up an alternative history of Luton for an Exodus festival a few years back - see www.geocities.com/pract_history/ |

Hello. I have the Profane Existence 15 Year Anniversary CD, and the fourth track is Karma Sutra's 'Poll Tax' which is imho one of the finest tracks on the CD and considering the other bands featured on the CD that is really saying something- (SOFAHEAD, NAUSEA, DOOM, KARMA SUTRA, MORAL SUCKLING, HIATUS, PISSED, ONE BY ONE, NEGATIVE STANCE, RESIST, STATE OF FEAR, ICONS OF FILTH, SUICIDAL SUPERMARKET TROLLEYS, CHRISTDRIVER, CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, MISERY, SERVITUDE, REACT, DETESTATION, A//POLITICAL, PHOBIA, RESIST AND EXIST, PROVOKED, HUMAMN WASTE, ANOTHER OPPRESSIVE SYSTEM, GARMONBOZIA, DISRESPECT, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND, and BEHIND ENEMY LINES)

Karma Sutra:: Daydreams of a Production Line Worker

A definate yes, on CD would be nice!

Spon had a hand in Recording/Producing this at 'Fon' studios in Sheffield

in 1986 or 87!

Karma Sutra were put up by their mates ChumbaWumba at their Leeds

(we think?) Squatt, for the duration of the recording session.

The Swiss Customs must be sitting on a hundred copys of this Album as

they were 'taxed' from Karma Sutra on the border as Karma were making

their way to a series of gigs in Italy, unfortunately KS did not have the right

documentation. This was devastating to the band who had plowed all

their personal finances into the Record and furthermore needed the

potential income from the sale of the records to help finance the tour!

There wasn't even any gigs planned in Switzerland, they were just

passing through!

Karma Sutra were given the full- on treatment by the customs ie Strip

search dismantling the van all in all a 6 hour ordeal! Eventually they

were able to continue their journey ( minus the 100 records) and as it

was late in the day made an unshcedulled stopover in Zurich to lick their

wounds.

A chance meeting with an 'anarchist- looking character' in the street led

to a talk of a gig a week or so later, phone numbers were exchanged

and the band made their way onwards to Italy. A few days later KS got

a call and a gig was on In Zurich!

It turned out to be a squatt on top of a mountain overlooking Zurich

at a place called Utleiburg. It turned out to be an amazing gig! worthy

of a book in itself! and the band were treated loke 'royalty' by their

'anarchist' hosts!

Yes We would like to see this re-released!
