Online Fanzine!
Anyone out there remmember fanzines?
Nowadays we got the WWW. but back in the late seventies/early eighties, the only way that information could be got over on the 'Underground' was by Photocopied Fanzines!
In Luton in 1979 a such fanzine ( The Suss ) apeared, reporting on news and 'Punk' issues around local bands (UK Decay, Pnuemania, etc ).
About seven or eight issues in totall were issued.
The first issue, using the 'Sun' newspaper logo with the 'n' replaced with the nazi 'SS' logo was photocopied and about 150 copies and 10 pages were made. These being hastilly distributed about the local (Luton) venues and particullaly UK Decay concerts.
By the end 'Rough Trade' had taken over manufacture and distributing 'The Suss' and were doing about 2000 to three thousand an issue!
Editorial control however was never compomised and often critisism was levelled at 'bad taste' 'bad spelling' etc but there was no getting away from the fact that such Fanzines as the Suss offered much seeked 'alternative' information in the pre WWW. era.
It also played a valuable insight into the world of UK Decay.
So for the first time ( as far as I know! ) This website will be making available online 'Tha Suss' in its original format albeit .JPG

The front cover of episode 5 of 'The Suss'
Probablly published around Sept/Oct 1979. Around the same time the Soviets invaded Afghanistan!
'The Suss' was 'A no Holes barred' pollitical/sociological/ideological homegrown community 'Fanzine', that always 'Topicalised' current events relevent to the times......wether it was a blistering 'Lambast ' against Lord Mountbatan ( Who got assasinated in a bomblast on his private yacht by a bomb which was planted, allegedlly by the IRA!) or the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan..'The Suss' was 'On It'
In a way, 'the Suss' was a definative precursor to what you might see today online when you visit a website, the technology simply wasnt there in the day ! _________________
