Mark Cottles jacket

Mark Cottles jacket, click for larger gallery view

Thanks to Mark for sending this pic of his jacket, as seen worn at many a
UK Decay gig in the early 80's. Mark was a close friend of Decay, as well as
Sax player for the much underated Luton band, The Statics. He often did the
lights and back stage 'tech-ing' and accompanied UKDK on many of their gigs.
In his own words....
"Found this old jacket mouldering away in a box of junk the other day and
thought you might be interested in a pic.
If I remember right it was painted the day we stood in at the last minute
for wasted youth at the bridge house in canning town and cause the paint was
still wet we hung it in the rear window of the sherpa on the way to the gig.
It was also worn a lot on the 2nd tour of Holland, France and Germany in
conjunction with an old flying jacket called Douglas Bader NFL.(No Fucking
Legs). Imagine my surprise when after loosing 40kg it still fits me."

If anyone wants to comment on Marks jacket, please add your cooment
here (rather than 'Post reply below')

Nice one Mark! Thanks again for sharing this pic with us all.

Cheers for the good ole Captain B for sharing this pic of himself having a
'Travolta-moment' at the scarborough taboo club in 1981.
The pic was part of a series that was taken on the 1981 UK Decay, Play
Dead, Dark -UK tour of that year. There are several other pics from that gig
already posted in the gallery including this one....

The Captain 'B' gained his 'wings' (flappy 70's collars!) by playing
drum's with the early Pneumania, he then accompanied UK Decay as
tour manager for that tour.

Nice one captain!

A flyer advertising the 'For My Country/Unwind' single (1980)
The quote...
‘Remember, the next war will not be your war, it will always be their war
but you will die anyway. Your war is the now war, the war to stop war’

is arguably as pertinent today as it was back then.

A big thanks to Chris Plummer for sending in these gems from his
collection, there are a couple more which will be posted in the next
couple of days.

Cheers!

UK Decay Lyric sheet & Correspondence

As promised here are the other two scan's that Chris Plummer kindly sent in
last week. The first is a composit lyric sheet which the band printed and gave
away at gigs, containing the lyrics for Unwind, Sexual, Rising from the Dread,
Christian Disguise and a quote from For my Country. This sheet was
printed around spring 1980 and was probably included in an issue of the
Suss fanzine.

Below is a letter sent from UK/DK drummer Steve Harle, to Chris Plummer.
Dated the 11th June 1980 the details included some of the forthcoming gigs
that UK Decay were about to do.

A big toast to Chris for sending in these,,,cheers mate!

Letters and Correspondence

When coming to post up Steve's letter to Chris we had a problem or
rather should I see a decision as to exactly where was the most
appropriate place to put it. It felt right that it should go in the
'Flyers posters and memoralbilia' album, but it didn't seem right posting
them right next to Flyers and poster images. The solution was to make
a new album which we have called 'Correspondence'.
There is only one letter in it at the moment which is from Chris Plummer
but hopefully that will be added to over time.
In the heyday of decay, the band received and replied to hundreds if
not thousands of letters from fans. If anyone out there has such a letter
or correspondence and wouldn't mind sharing a scan of it with us, then
please consider adding it to our new album. We know there some still out
there as they make occasional appearances on Ebay. We are not asking
for any originals, just a scan will do!
Please send any scan's to.....

Passchendaele, 'Punk Lives' 'Young Blood'

Cheers to the Fanzine people and Fish for sending this scan of a 'Punk Lives'
article in their Young Blood series.
Interestingly written by Richard North and speaks of recordings that sadly
as far as I am aware never made the light of day.
Passchendaele, a Luton band with great promise who flourished between
1983 and 1985 had a great sound, a great shame they did'nt get any further!
Johnny G later went on to form The Party Girls. Paul Mitchel the vocalist
in the photo was previously in another legendary Luton band, The Statics.
Darren the drummer later became a DJ of distinction.

Phill the bassist later moved into internet gaming websites.
Pat Keating the keyboardist became part of the great Luton exodus to
Ireland of the late eighties and has never been seen since! at least not
in Luton.
Later, Nick Stewart replaced Paul on vocals, the band later somewhere
around 1985, unfortunately played their last gig.

please add any comments about Passchendale here

R3 Artist in residence Hugh Byrne

Visit Hughs galleries here

UK DK R3 artist in residence, Hugh Byrne set up a photo studio at the event
and took hundreds of shots of the people that attended.
He is currently creating new atrworks out of the photos he took that night.

As promised we have opened two new galleries to include the results.

The first gallery contains the unadulterated straight shots. The second
gallery includes his composed artworks.
It will take some time to prepare and include all of the shots taken, as it
will for Hugh to create his new works. So please be patient and check
back from time to time to view the latest updates.

Visit the Studio Shots gallery here

UK Decay Reunion III, artist in residence, Hugh Byrne set
up a temporary studio in order to take some shots for his forthcoming
works.
He invited his subjects to take on various poses, particularly he was after
Zombie-like forms. Later he will craft some of these shots into new photo
montage fantasy scapes. This album contains the straight unadulterated
shots that were taken, before he later manipulates them into his new
work.

Artworks created by UK Decay Reunion III, artist in residence,
Hugh Byrne, will be posted up in this album.
Check back here from time to time to see Hugh's latest creations,
inspired by the recent event. Later and with the addition of more
works,an exhibition is planned for the finished collection.

Whilst on the subject of text transcriptions, Nihilism on the Prowl's,
Vintage Interviews
site has some classic text transcribed nterviews
from the Punk-post-punk generation-seventies, eighties and nineties -
mainline UK music rags.
Obviously a long term project, the site is being added to all
the time. Up there already to name a few are The Ruts, The Damned,
The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Crass, Killing Joke, Siouxsie etc etc.
Just included is the late Johnny Wallers interview with Abbo on the
demise of UK Decay in early 1983. That interview and news of the
UK Decay split made front page of the then popular 'Sounds' UK
music rag.
