The original b&w photo of soldiers walking to the trenches at Ypres in 1914, which can be found on the FMC cover can be seen at www.bbc.co.uk/history/
It's part of a slide show of other photos and if you're quick enough you can right-click and save.
With no disrespect to the band, the original black and white is a much more powerful image than the salmon of the record cover: black clouds hang low, as if a burden on the shoulders of troops marching across a broken landscape to almost certain death, yet above them the sun is still trying to break through the gloom...
This was supposed to have been, "The war to end all wars", so I guess the sun must have stayed in. |
