Mick Mercer's Music to die for and The Mick 49

Recently, BBC Radio Two featured a one hour documentary entitled,
"The G-Word" which was narrated by one time 'Goth' Andrew Collins
It was broadcasted on Saturday 28 February 2009 at 7pm and featured
amongst other Goth notables, many quotes by our own Steve 'Abbo' Abbott.
Abbo spoke elegantly of UK Decay's early days and of the wider issues of the times.

Another guest on the documentary was Mick Mercer who has recently
published a new book - "Music to die for". It is probably the most comprehensive
guide to date, of the Goth music scene. There are hundreds of bands from all over
the globe featured within it's pages.

Some would call Mick Mercer the 'John Peel' of the Goth Scene, he has
been championing its cause now for thirty years. In the early days he
wrote for a fanzine called 'Panache', then he went on to write for 'Melody
Maker', 'Zig Zag Magazine' and 'Punk Lives'.
In the early nineties he wrote and published the original 'goth-bible',
'Gothic Rock', which educated and inspired new generations to the musical
genre. In this book (as this is after all the UK Decay Com website!), he
interviews Abbo and makes great feature of UK Decay.

In recent years Mick Mercer has utilised the web very creatively and
aside from his popular blog, he issues a regular-ish online fanzine;
'The Mick'. UK Decay are often mentioned within the pages of 'The Mick'
and the latest issue "The Mick 49" contains his take on the
aforementioned 'The G-Word' Documentary. Included in Mick's review
are many quotes from Abbo and some early photo's of UK Decay for
those who may be interested.

'The Mick 49' is available in PDF to download free of charge for one
month and is available here

There is also a 40 minute interview with Mick Mercer, talking about his
new book "Music to die for' on Cherry Red TV. Here Mick talks openly
about the genesis of the early Goth Scene and how it progressed.
He speaks a lot about the role UK Decay played in the early scene.
As well of course, about scores of other bands and issues within Goth.

I found this interview very absorbing and genuinely interesting.
You can see and hear the guru of the goth pen, in the flesh probably for
the first time below.
So put the kettle on, wrap one up, open a can- whatever, put your feet
up and click the play button below and enjoy!

For anybody that may have missed 'The G-Word' documentary,
we have a copy here. We are investigating ways to stream it from the
website, but it is a large file and needs re-coding but we can perhaps
pop it onto a CD if anyone's interested, email or PM us for details.

The original show was on the BBC I-Player for aweek, but is sadly no
longer available on the beeb website.
