Steve "Abbo" Abbot and Cerys Matthews are mentors on BBC 2's "Goldie's Band: By Royal Appointment"
You can watch the first episode now on I Player. A very enjoyable
alternative to 'Crap Factor' also with Luton youngster Lester Allen as
one of the musicians chosen for the band.

"Three part series which follows drum and bass pioneer Goldie
on a personal mission to discover young people whose talent and passion
for music is at the centre of their lives.
In the first episode, Goldie is joined on his nationwide search by a team of
experts including composer Guy Chambers, jazz artist Soweto Kinch,
MC/songwriter Ms Dynamite, singer/songwriter Cerys Matthews and Steve
Abbott.
The challenge is to select a line-up for a band and prepare for a special
concert at Buckingham Palace with guest of honour Prince Harry."
Unlike Cowell's 'Crap' Factor this series reflects the alternative of
underground young British musicians, who can write and perform
original music that is genuine and heartfelt....
Finding singers, songwriters and instrumentalists who
just want to be famous is easy (don’t worry you won’t see any of them
on this series). Thing is, reaching out to young people with
very difficult lives and a proven passion for music is incredibly difficult.
But when you find them, you know.....Goldie
Along with Goldie, Abbo & Cery's team up to select musicians on the
first episode for the band. Twelve young musicians are finally chosen
to make up the band. Many young Luton musicians will remember
Lester Allen who is an astonishing young singer/songwriter from
the Headjam sessions at the Hat Factory.
