Hi Spawn,

Are you using Halion 2 or 3.3.1 ?
I Take it your using halion3or 3.1, Firstly Halion3 has a new output routing system that allows you to create and configure the audio outputs, and only the outputs you need will be routed directly to the host VST mixer If you 're using that host. . secondly the available outputs as per halion instant may be limited, Depending on the host application or plugin interface you use ie vst, orion or other. Let me know your set up and i might be able to help more cheers mate PJ Shocked

Halion Outputs..assigning

Using Halion 2 and Steinberg Cubase SX 2 (also Nuendo ver2)

Following is a Tutorial on how to get at those seperate mixer inputs from Halion

Assuming You have got both Halion(ver2) and Cubase SX(ver 2) & have a working
Knowledge of using VSTI's
Call up 'Halion' in your Cubase VST Instrument panel & you get....Halion!

Click one of the above highlighted buttons, the 'Keyzone' button
is a good starting place....it doesn' really matter which one!

We are on the 'Channel/Prog' window here, we can change that later.
Load up or make up a Drumkit on 'Channel 1'

Click the 'Keyzone' button to reveal the sample keyzones & Layers window.
If you are creating your own Drumkit Programs, this is where you can import
your drums/samples onto MIDI note or areas and edit them

Now turn to your Cubase Mixer, make sure your 'VST Instrument's are not
'Hidden'. On Cubase SX 2 they should appear as above, showing Halion's
4 x Stereo outputs ( 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8 ) then 4 Mono outputs
(9, 10, 11, 12.)..

The left box indicated above is the 'Channel select', having loaded our
drumkit on 'Channel 1', we have now selected 'Channel 2' and have loaded
up a stereo guitar program. The next above button indicated is the 'Output
Select' button, which by default is set on 'PROG'. This means the

instrument/Program
that is set on this Channel is routed to the main Halion
outputs, which happen to be Halion outputs 1 & 2...

We are going to now re-route the loaded Stereo Guitar (which is set on
Channel 2 ) by clicking the 'Output' tab seen above. We have selected
outputs ' 3 & 4 '

Now we set up another istrument/Program up on Channel 3

Having loaded up a Bass program, we set the 'Bass' to 'output' from
Mono Output 9

Flicking back to the mixer, whilst playing the Bass on a MIDI keyboard,
we check the signal ( When introducing a new Instrument into your mix,
a wise Sound engineer should always kill the playback vollume preferablly,
hardware style and check the 'LED' before lifting again..you all knew this
anyway!?)
Up to now we have described one way of routing Halion Instrument Outputs,
to seperate input's on the Cubase SX mixer. This is not the only way,
You might want to seperate up your multi sample Drumkit so as each drum
sample might have it's unique input on the Cubase Mixer, here's how....

We return to our multisample Drumkit set on 'Channel 1' Each Drum/sample
in our loaded Drumkit pictured above has a lane in the upper pane, above the
keyboard. Every note in our keyboard is covered by a different Drum/sample.
By clicking these lanes we can highlight different drums, in the above
example we have highlighted the note 'F2' which in this case happens to be
a Snaredrum. Next we click the 'Loop' button (pointed in green above)

You have now entered the 'LOOP' window. The waveform of the Snaredrum is
pictured above. Editing of the 'Start & End' and Looping of the sample
is done here.

Move on to the next tab which is the 'ENV/FILTER' window.
Make sure you still have that Snaredrum (or whatever!) highlighted...you
can check by flicking back to the 'KEYZONE' window. It's a good idea to place
the 'blue spot' by clicking with the mouse on the highlighted note.

There are 3 buttons on the top right hand side of Halion that determine
what mode of editing your in.
Because we want to have seperate sample outputs on the same Channel these
3 buttons are the key to acheiving our goal.
The top blue button must be set on 'SAMPLE' (not 'PROGRAM')
And the 'ABSOLUTE' button might be reading 'RELATIVE' so click it until it
reads 'ABSOLUTE'. The red button on the right should read 'SELECT'
Make sure you still have your drum/sample highlighted, in our case it is a
Snardrum which is set on the note F2
Now click the bottom right 'OUT' tab to reveal a pop-up select box, we choose
Mono output 10.

This is a very important and you could disturb a lot of programing by a wrong
click...so usual proceedure, save as your creating using updated file-names,
In the image above, note the 2 upper configuration's of the buttons are incorrect
where it reads 'PROGRAM' it should read 'SAMPLE'
Now click the 'ENV/FILTER' tab at the bottom of Halion.

With the Snaredrum still highlighted the Snaredrum is now routed to Halion
input 10 on the Cubase SX2 mixer.
All the remaining drums are still routed to the 'PROG' output, which means
they will continue to input on Cubase mixer Halion tracks 1 & 2

The Snaredrum was reading in the LED and we could hear it through our monitors.

For our purposes we wrote a MIDI drum pattern on Cubase and played the 'Part'
containing the pattern as we flicked back to the Mixer window.
Looking at the MIDI drum part in view of seperating our Kickdrum & other
drums/samples. Which at the moment are still comming out of the 'Main' outputs.

Having achieved the seperation of the Snaredrum Let's sort out the Kickdrum,
back to the Drumkit on Halion.

Select MIDI note 'C1' (in our case a Kickdrum) put the blue spot on the same
note on the keyboard if you like. then click the 'ENV/FILTER' button.

Check the Mode select buttons are correct and click the 'OUT' button on the
bottom right of Halion to route the output of the Kickdrum to Mono 10.

Follow the same procceedure now to add further samples to further outputs.
Halion 2 has 4 stereo outputs and 4 Mono outputs...So you need more?

Well Spawn (and anyone else who wants to know!)
that's how you do it (or at least one way)
Dont forget you can also save your sample banks/programs/Instruments...
within Halion itself as 'FXP's'. You can also 'Archive' your sample banks
So as to save the samples into a convenient place, ie your Song Folder!
Happy Hunting!
Hope this helps!
Anyone any other ideas??
