And your point being?

Yes I know "California Über Alles" was originally released in 1979, but The Coven night advertised is a result of too much "bleep" being played over the last few months, and I just fancied going back to my post punk/early gothic roots.

God there's always someone with a bloody comment isn't there?

Yes, yes, by all means carry on looking backwards. I just don't see where the Dead Kennedys fit in. Unless it is the word "dead".

I'm in Luton that weekend and might just put my plastic fangs in and make a night of it.

Well, the description "gothic" is just a broad term used to cover the diverse alternative artists originally around in the early 1980's.

After all, how would you describe a night of Sex gang Children, UKDecay, Sisters of Mercy, Specimen, Salvation, Virgin Prunes, The Cure, Alien Sex Fiend, March Violets etc...

Dead Kennedys fits just as well into the "gothic/post punk" genre as much as say, The B52's - Planet Claire, or early New Model Army or The Cramps.

As far as "looking backwards," this is the first full trad goth night we have ever had at The Coven since we started over three years ago. We usually play "up to the minute" new gothic/industrail & EBM, but fancied a change.

If you do still fancy coming down, please leave your "fangs" behind. We run a nightclub, not a vampire society!

Hey it may not have been a 'vampire society'

But from the outside it seemed to be a very 'Happening night'!

This Werewolf with all honest attempt hastened to sample a taste
of 'the first full trad goth night', but unfortunately and sadly, things
went a bit 'pear-shaped' during the course of the evening. Hence
on arrival at an extreemly over the top late hour(2.15AMish!), the
drawbridge at 'The Coven' was in the 'Lock-in' position with an
obvious 'Full-on Mela' taking place inside!
From the 'Throngs' of brave 'Ghouls' seen departing and dining in
the nearby 'Chicken' kitchens and the thunderous sanguine tones
of the Virgin Prunes or was it Alien Sex Fiend? echoing around the
vincinity,,
It seems this werewolf missed a dam fine bash!

Didn't hang about too long cus the Cab drivers were sharpening their
Silver Bullets!

After several 'Raps' on the Covens brazen door knockers, which to
no Avail, this werewolf decided to make a run with its 'tail-betwixt'
back to the nearby 'Aldwyck Towers'. ...SHIT!

Never Mind, hopefully there will be another chance!?

'Goth's Rule ok - in 'Chav Town'! ??

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Just typical you called so late!

Still, with taking a bit of a gamble on running our first trad 80's goth night and with the possiblity of frightening people away of my idle threat of not being admitted without fishnets provided Saturdays Coven with the slowest night we've had in a ages. After what seems an eternity of people hassling me to play a more trad goth, I give them a full night of it, and they don't turn up!

Well, I'm not sure if we made full capacity, but the dance floor kicked in just after 11 and we were pretty full by around 12.
A few problems with the deck cutting out (again) and we had no main stobe light. I don't think my little skull light really made any real difference, but it's the thought that counts.

Kudos to Tonyhippy & Elaine for providing the dancing entertainment throughout my first set. Not an easy one to dance to. CovenAlex played a couple of blinding sets throughout the night (also playing a few songs from the 90's, but a request is a request!) Apologies to Yasmin & kelly for being so unrepentant regarding their request - I assure you I will be more request friendly next month!

Thanks to all that made the effort to dress up, and a big thanks to the biggest Bedford contigency we've seen since last year. Please keep up the support. Also good to see Julian, who's recently escaped the drudgery of London to find solice within The Coven.

The night seemed to go all too quickley, and I was home before I knew it.

So we're back again on October 8th, when it's all back to normal (whatever that it) with the usual excellent mix of all the gothic genres.
