well i saw in a newsagent today one of these glossy "specials" all the music papers and magazines are now doing , this one on goth. sadly this seems to mean huge quantities of the cure , banshees and birthday party , bit of bauhaus/cult/cocteaus and not much else. surprisingly there's a fair bit of joy division , who i never lump in with "goth" at all.
of course , no uk decay at all. far too much to ask for i guess. you get a little bit of southern death cult / sex gang but basically its just the big label acts. shame really , the 81-84 scene doesn't get properly written about at all. there was a big buzz going on then , and it sure weren't at the hammersmith or birmingham odeon on the big money cure/banshees tours. somebody should make sure that story gets written...... p |
