Spon - remember Cambridge United?

www.lutonfc.com has a brilliant messageboard, but the site is often down. The alternative way to the message board is to go to www.hattersinfo.tk and scroll down to the appropriate link.

I put a message up for www.ukdecay.co.uk a couple of days ago.

Trouble at the Top 10th December 2005

Another chance to see this 'Crisis at Luton Town' episode
here in the UK on BBC2 this evening!

here are the details:- BBC2

12.20am Trouble at the Top The mystery surrounding the sale of Luton
Town Football Club, a prime site next to Luton Airport, for a rumoured £4 to
a consortium represented by property developer John Gurney, who faced a
fans' revolt after sacking the club's popular manager. Gurney tried to make
amends by deciding the new manager would be chosen by a phone vote, but
before the polls closed, he was filmed discussing terms with the eventual
winner (888) (Stereo)

Luton 3-0 Stockport
Quote:
Luton returned to the top of League One with a comprehensive victory
over relegation-threatened Stockport.
Chris Coyne gave the home side the lead when he smashed home a loose
ball after Curtis Davies and Kevin Nicholls had seen efforts blocked on the
line.
Top-scorer Steve Howard doubled the lead from close range after the break
following good work from Ahmet Brkovic.
Captain Nicholls sealed the win from the penalty spot after Jim Goodwin was
penalised for handball.

Picture the scene...late 70s or was it 1980. Been up at a certain house in Welly St with Mr Hall. I seem to have ingested an awful lot of mushrooms. We decide to go and watch the Hatters v QPR. As I watch, I sense the pitch gets greener and then whoosh I'm in virtual Match of the Day land. Motty is commentating in my left lughole. QPR keep passing back to goal. I shout out, "You can tell this lot are managed by a Scottish w*nker". I turn round to laugh with Chris but oh my holy turnip brain, the whole crowd has orange hair and each and every person is wearing a kilt. Unearthly bag pipe music echoes around my head. Paranoid moi...oh yes. But as ever we do the decent thing and Chris and I follow the QPR crew back to the station. Two from Luton. One off his tree, loads of QPR and the thin blue line. More paranoia and then back to the relative safety of Welly Street. Now the memory is somewhat impaired...did we then go to Friars to see the Gang of Four? Or was it another night? It was an awesome gig with mushrooms galore wrapped in newspaper like fish and chips. I thought the world was going to end. It nearly did.

Gang of Four played Aylesbury Friars on 10 November 1979, supported by The Red Crayola and The Stowaways (the latter a local band). I was at the gig too. I have seen a website on Aylesbury Friars, but I don't have/know/find the URL now- can anybody find it ?

Gang of Four were one of my favourite bands for a time- they've played again very recently, but I was the other side of the world at the time-' I Found That Essence Rare' ! Whether it was good I missed them this time round, I don't know. Probably.

I saw the Gang of Four a couple of weeks ago doing a 'secret' warm up gig for their mini tour at my local pub in New Cross. They were excellent, I have put up a review at www.transpont.blogpsot.com

Ian, the Friars site is at:

http://archnt2.tamu.edu/rburt/fun%20stuff/FRIARS/FRIARS_MAIN.htm

and Neil, can you confirm your Gang of Four link? All it takes me to is some God-botherers site.
