Friday 24th September 2004 Important Administration notice!
Beware of 'Spam Members'
Uk Decay communities has always claimed an 'open - door'
policy regarding the use of the website and forums.
However
In the last couple of days we have been concerned about new
members exploiting the users of this forum.
The problem manifests itself in the new members 'Website' addresses
..several of these addresses have been found to have 'unsavoury' topics
ie porn and 'medication' and other 'Spam' similarities, furthermore,
these websites if clicked may infest the users machines with viruses!
As we found to our cost this morning!
We have in the last couple of days removed several members completely
and removed several further 'dodgy' looking Web addresses
from other suspect members profiles. From now on we shall be
keeping a very close eye on new members and their Website
addresses.
UK Decay Communities WILL NOT tollerate 'SPAM' membership and
will throw out any member that are abusing the
forum and its users.
Warning..UK Decay Communities cannot be held responsible for
the content of external sites...although we do our upmost to check
and validate the links that are placed on the main website, because
of the very nature of the Forums open-door policy, it is not always
possible to keep up to date with 'URL's' that users and abusers may
post up....SO BE WARNED....
If anyone suspects a 'dodgy' link or URL (web address) or member
that has been posted up on any of the forums, please let us know
PM me now click here
or
werewolf@ukdecay.co.uk
If any one feels they have unfairlly had their web address removed
please again contact us at the above links
Thanking you all for your patronage to UK Decay Communities
Lets keep this site 'SPAM' free!

problem could be caused by 'Spambots'
After a little tracking down, it apears that our little 'bogus member'
problem could be due to 'spambots'
These are feindish little applications that are programmed to log in
as 'members' in order to propagate their 'Spam' web addresses.
If anyone has any information on how this problem can be solved
without causing any inconvenience to the forum, it would be good
if you could let us know.
In the meanwhile we will keep on the case! _________________

I've a feeling that the only way that you can prevent those pesky spambots is to make the forum a members only site.
I've also got an inkling if you do that then a lot of the casual passers by - like me - who can't be arsed to log in, but occasionally have something to say, would piss off to pastures new.
... I could be wrong ... on both counts ... |

Spambots
We would rather sit here and 'manually' remove the F****s than
have this an exclusive members only site.
The forum needs to be 'open to all' but inherent in that is always the
danger of Bogus membership and dodgy posts.
Its the links these posters put up on their posts and website addresses
that have to be watched!
We have ALL have to be cautious of these!
But at least we understand whats going hopefully a little better now
we can cope with it!
