I would like to know people experienced with Luton council ?, I wonder what is going on in that town hall. How bad is the curruption getting in Luton and are the council serving there people correctly or just acting like they are unaccountable and can do what they like?. |

AS A TEENAGER, I LOVED LUTON.
THE PUNK SCENE WAS BETTER THAN BEDFORD, WAY BETTER, BIGGER, MORE ACTIVE, AND IT WAS CENTERED AROUND UK DECAY WHO WERE WELL KNOWN.
BUT NOW, 28 YRS LATER, I WORK OUT OF AN OFFICE IN LUTON, WORK AROUND LONDON, AND CAN HONESTLY SAY, THE PLACE IS DIRE.
I GET A VERY BAD VIBE.
SHAME, ITS GOT POTENTIAL, BUT LIKE ALL DEAD EX INDUSTRIAL CENTRES, ITS HAD ITS DAY, THE SECOND WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD NEXT TO DAGENHAM, WHICH IS, GENUINELY, WHERE LUTON COULD BE HEADED IN 20 YEARS TIME. _________________ BEDFORD'S ONLY 40 + TEENAGER |

from The Guardians's "Fiver" football newsletter:
"NEWS IN BRIEF
Helsingborgs' Jamaican striker, Luton Shelton, will join Sheffield United for a fee of around £2m. But, more pertinently, who in their right mind names their child after the worst town in Britain?" |

Luton is a place where people live. People differ in many ways. There are 400 different nationalities living in London (where I now live) and few people think London is the worst town in the world.
The fact that people think Luton is shit has nothing to do with the different cultures and nationalities living there. It is to do with the fact that it has shit people in positions of power in the council and local police who are concerned with parochial bullshit.
IMHO. _________________ "You can't fight in here... This is the War Room!"

The Luton I remember and Luton is a dump
LUTON.......Demolition in progress.
It has been a while since anyone made any comment on this thread,
however the post has now had over 24,000 views and is viewed on average
75 times every week.
Luton 2009
A lot has changed since the Hatters were riding high at the top of the
division, now it looks like they will be sadly out of the league before long.
Many hatters fans feel betrayed by the football authorities, quite rightly so
IMHO! There is no justice for the humble hatters fan.
How the city of Luton will cope with the up and coming depression is anyone's guess,
it will probably survive one way or another. It didn't do too bad during the twenties
depression, faring better than the average UK town. We shall have to see.
Many Lutonians have been 'credit-crunched up' for some years now, indeed
there are some area's in town that have never fully recovered
from the last recessions! Perhaps this downtown won't make a lot of difference
to the town/city.
They revamped St. Georges Square and it re-opened a couple years ago
with pomp and 'celebrities' (that no-one had ever heard of!) For two years
we had summer festivals, skateboarding, rollerskating, the carnival and
rain...lots of it!
Now (February 2009) it has reverted once again to a muddy noisy
building site as the Arndale (Mall) is currently getting a 'make-over'.
The last of the large manufacturing industry has shut down it's factories
leaving Lutonians to a destiny of working in the service industries.
The bus station has been pulled down (and not replaced!), the site is
currently being utilized as a ...guess what!...a carpark!
The Library theatre multistory is currently shut down owing to structural
safety fears.
The towns long established Public Houses are vanishing one by one.
There are 100 million pound redevelopment schemes in the pipeline
but whether or not in the current climate, they are ever realised is
anyone's guess.
Overall, is there anything good about the town to report?
Well, if anyone out there does have anything positive to report about
Luton, please let us know. Post reply below and lets have it.
There must be something!
Luton on Facebook
On another tip, for those out there in Facebook world. There are a couple
groups, one 'positive' and one 'negative' about Luton.
Although it has to be said, even the 'positive' group is mainly about the
nostalgia and memories from former 'better' times.
Anyway for those interested in things Lutonian here they are....
