Anyone remmember 'The Chronic Outbursts', Leighton Buzzard band from 1980ish?

Being from Leighton BeBuggered how could I not know of the Outbursts. I have lost touch with practically everyone but I was at Dave's funeral service last year.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that Dave was a remarkable man and I had (and still have) the utmost respect for him.

Sad news indeed about Mad Dave. Ian Lee told me a couple of months back. I hadn't seen him for a good twenty years, but I've got a perfect image of him in my head: A few of the Luton lads are over in Leighton one friday night in 1980 to meet up with the LU7 punx. There's me, Daize, Lol and a few others. We meet Norman in the Black Lion then wander up the High Street to see Ian "Ugee" Lee and Mad Dave and more. After chucking out time we're in Dave's dads' front garden - the vicarage! - and there's Dave wheeling a piano out of the house to play in the garden! A perfect moment.

Hey there blink, how's it hangin ? i did indeed have a rehearsal or two with you, ruth and anne. I'm still here. I saw Spon at mad dave's funeral, a sad affair indeed. Hope he's happy. He died at his House in Goa, his ashes being put in the Ganges, as per his wishes.He had a place in Spain, where i had stayed a few times. I still have my t-shirt from his bar there, Gemini's in Orgiva. I went down there last week , to see a man about a dog, and i have to say it felt real empty without him. I've still got all the DK singles including the split single with Gaynor & co, and a treasured Statics Demo. Incidentally i bumped into Eric the guitarist last year at Waterloo Station. I spoke to Lol via text messaging last week, still grooving, LIKE THE REST OF US. - Jay Wolfendale x.

Difficult to forget...

I think they had they had their first gig- or one of their first, at any rate- at The Bossard Hall, Leighton Buzzard, on 24/10/80- the first of many support slots to UK Decay.

They supported The Birthday Party ( ! ) at the same venue on 05/06/81- much to the annoyance of some of the local.... lads... who thought it should have been the over way round. So did I, if only because The Birthday Party (who seemed terrified of the audience at their first UK gig outside of London, thanks to promoter Andy Cooper, another local, uh, character of the time) - would probably have played for longer had that been the case.

The line up of The Chronic Outbursts at one time or other featured most of the main stays of the Leighton Buzzard punx- Dave Barr, Craig Hopgood, Norman Hughes, Keith Minney, Mark Howard (later -or simultaneously- in the Anti-Social Workers), Ian Williams (later in Napalm Tan, who supported the Chronic Outbursts themselves & Conflict in LB, then Cabaret Voltaire in Bedford), Jimmy Yon (later- or simultaneously- in Absent Friends), Sue Limbert ? I'm sure Tim Young and Jay Wolfendale joined them on stage on occasions. The Homeleigh ( ! ) 'guest house' in Beaudesert, LB, seemed a pivotal building in the town for the band, as serveral of them seemed to live there for quite a time. Cliche, Sgt Barker and other memorable songs which I can't actually remember right now...

THE legendary Leighton Buzzard group (fuck The Barron Knights - barren nights ? -and Kajagoogoo- dogs' turd- ie necessary for some, but very unpleasant for most).

I couldn't make Dave Barr's funeral service on 29/03/03, as I only got home from a holiday that very day. I would have loved dearly to have been there. (I heard that it was a religious service- he wouldn't have liked that- don't relations have any respect for your own viewpoint ?) There was a message on my answer machine from my manager at work ( ! ) -Phil Fletcher had rang up my workplace, not knowing I was on leave- my manager took the call, and passed it on to my answer machine. Just one day earlier, and I'd have dropped everything to have been at Dagnell (was it ?). The moments after I took in the message were... difficult. What was happening out there in India ? After Steve Harle and Wayne Twigg.. Dave himself had rang me to let me know about Waynes' death. I remember going round Waynes' house in LB some years ago, going on a brain machine- time seemed to expand ! -and him pointing out his own sisters' grave in Vandyke Road cemetery from the first floor window. Ironic.

Having visited both Dave and Wayne in Amsterdam several times, I wanted to visit Dave at his bar in Spain, too- but I never did make it..
He told me to "come out any time", but on the occasions I tried to organise it, I was ringing him up and there was either no reply, or I left a message. He didn't ring back- at least, not when I was in, anyway ! He didn't have email- he told me he didn't like (or understand ?) computers, nor did he seem interested in having one. Oh well.

Both Daves' and Waynes' deaths are, as they say, shrouded in mystery.
But what actually happened in both cases ? Does any know ? Ie, cause of death ? Any doctors present/medical facilities ? Did anyone- relations, maybe- see any (Indian) death certificate at any time ?

Nick Hawkins joined the Outbursts at one stage along with his pal Jason (? - sorry if I got your name wrong, its an age thing!), this was after Dave had just about sacked every other punk in the Leighton vacinity who owned a guitar or bass.

However Nick was far too musical for the Outbursts - he could actually play. He went on to join Big Audio Dynamite and now lives and is still releasing music in the States. Thorughly nice bloke as well.
