Why are we the Official site?
Answer. Well, two of the three co-founded the South Luton studio/squat that spawned the tribe that became known as UKDK and the HQ of Plastic Records
Having unique
access to hometown networking, memories and memorabilia, we are able to
offer the world a personal insight into the bands history and visionary
perspectives.
In 1979 UK Decay originated from Luton band
the Resistors later joined by guitarist Spon
from Pneumania.
Their short but influential career ended in late 1982.
From the ashes were born Furyo
and In
Excelsis.
The influence the band had on the emerging so-called
‘Goth’ scene is up for debate but is undeniable.
Sadly, drummer Steven David Harle passed away in India in 1995 so is no longer here to tell his tale, or to play his wonderful thundering rhythms. That is another reason for this website, to act as a memorial for Steve and others, who are much loved and profoundly missed !
I Introduction
to UK Decay
Communities n
Sometime
late 2003 sitting
round a table in Luton, three people were discussing the idea of setting
up an official UK Decay website. There were lots of ‘ifs and buts’
as well as the usual arguments about style and content, but the consensus
was that it had to be done!
The Domain ‘UKDecay.co.uk’ was immediately 'snapped up' as we were already aware of the thousands of UKDK links from various websites all over the globe. We all thought it was about time that UKDK made an "official" contribution to the Weird and Wonderfull World of the WWW.
Further searches revealed that many of UK Decays co-patriot bands such as Bauhaus, Theatre of Hate, Killing Joke, Joy Division etc. had all got their own fully integrated and updated websites. The time was right for a website that would act as official presence for the band.
